Electric Pocket's SmartInstall
lets software distributors such as Telco’s, software
publishers and enterprise IT departments automate the
installation and configuration of applications and services for
their users - without the need for a desktop connection.
SmartInstall is especially useful for installing and configuring
mobile and wireless data applications and services on a Palm OS
Handheld device.
SmartInstall has
been proved to greatly reduce the barrier to entry and cost of
supporting wireless data services.
SmartInstall is
easy to configure and customize. Applications can be dragged and
dropped on a desktop into the install directories on an SD/MMC
card which can then be used as the Gold Master to mass produce
more SD/MMC installation cards.
SmartInstall
is used by Vodafone UK retail personnel to quickly install a set
of applications and configure phone and Internet Service
Provider (ISP) set-up, enabling their customers to walk out of
the store with a device that is ready to use.

When
the SD/MMC card is inserted into the handheld SmartInstall automatically
launches and displays a customisable logo screen. The user selects
Install. For wireless network configuration a list of phones is then
displayed for the user to choose from. SmartInstall then proceeds to
install the applications, databases and configuration data from the SD/MMC
card onto the handheld. That is all that has to be done to configure a
new Palm device, and get it ready for action!
The SmartInstall license fee includes:
- SmartInstall client software, which you can customize to show your own branding,
texts, etc.
- SmartInstall
Configuration Guide, a simple guide to how to create the Gold Master SD card containing the
applications, network configurations and phone drivers that you want to
install.
- Unlimited client installation capability & 3 months support
from Electric Pocket included in single one-time license fee of
US$7500 (This simple license covers a single region or territory of
operation, eg. a European country or US state or metropolitan area).
